In anticipation of future demand for services in Adelaide’s southern metropolitan area, Resthaven purchased the Northern Operation Centre site at Lot 122, Hub Drive, Aberfoyle Park, from the City of Onkaparinga in January 2007, with the intention of developing a new residential aged care home. During the year, a site survey was commissioned to support the preparation of a concept plan for the property. Progression of the development remained contingent on securing funding through the Aged Care Approvals Round, with prevailing government funding priorities indicating that Aberfoyle Park was not considered a high-priority location at that time.
Announced on 4 December 2014, Resthaven was awarded Australian Government funding for 100 new aged care places to support the development of a new residential aged care home at Aberfoyle Park. This funding enabled planning for the project to commence, marking a significant step towards meeting the growing demand for aged care services in Adelaide’s south.

Following the allocation of funding, architects commenced preparation of preliminary concept plans. Soil testing was undertaken and environmental assessments arranged to inform the design process. During the year, draft plans were completed for the construction of a 100-bed facility, with the project progressing through Resthaven’s internal approval and governance processes.

Early in the year, a development application was lodged with the City of Onkaparinga and subsequently approved in September 2016. Following approval, tender documentation was prepared, resulting in the appointment of Sarah Constructions as construction manager. Demolition and bulk earthworks commenced in December 2016.

On 8 March 2017, a ‘Turn the Turf’ ceremony was held at the site. Board President Mark Porter turned the first sod of the planned $30 million facility. Several residents from the adjoining retirement village joined Resthaven staff and special guests for the occasion. Construction commenced shortly thereafter, with the facility’s foundations and slab poured mid-year.

With completion of the works projected for mid-year, the superstructure was completed in early 2018, with external cladding progressing soon after and the roof installed. Internal works also advanced, with services cabling installed and rooms taking shape. To support community engagement and raise awareness of the new facility, Resthaven hosted a stand at the ‘Get to Know Your Neighbour’ community event held on 23 February 2018 at a local school.

The home was completed in June 2018 and opened to the public with an official 'Open Day' on 12 July 2018, providing an opportunity for the local community to tour the facility and inspect three types of staged residential rooms. More than 500 people attended the opening, with staff on hand to conduct tours and respond to questions. Operations formally commenced on 16 July 2018.

On 12 October 2018, Resthaven celebrated the official opening of Resthaven Aberfoyle Park. The official opening and dedication by Rev. Sue Ellis, Moderator of the Uniting Church in South Australia, culminated in the unveiling of a plaque to mark the occasion and a special prayer for the home.

The installation of the metal sculpture, Hikers, by Adelaide artist Gerry McMahon, was a welcome addition to the site's front garden. The sculpture shows a grandmother and child. In the right hand of the grandmother is a camera—symbolising memory and nostalgia; and in the left hand of the child is a compass—a metaphor for direction and future.

On 4 October 2019, Resthaven Aberfoyle Park held its first anniversary celebration. The occasion was celebrated with a morning tea and afternoon concert, with staff and residents dressed in costumes from their favourite eras. Residents and their families gathered in the decorated hall, with special guests including Steve Murray MP, State Member for Davenport. The anniversary cake was cut by two of the home’s earliest residents, Mrs Olive Goddard and Mrs Denyse Doumanis.

Providing meaningful purpose and excitement amongst residents, the home's 'Knitting for the Homeless' initiative began in late 2019. Led by the Wellbeing Coordinator and volunteers, residents knitted blankets and beanies for homeless people in Adelaide, with the group personally delivering boxes of the knitted goods when possible.
In early 2020, Resthaven residential aged care homes adapted to the restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, implementing strict infection prevention and control measures to safeguard residents and staff. Visitor restrictions, quarantine requirements, enhanced staff training and vaccination programs were introduced in response to evolving public health directions. To reduce social isolation, homes embraced new ways for residents to connect with family and friends, including video calls and window visits, while maintaining a strong focus on residents’ health, wellbeing and quality of life.

In December 2020, the home celebrated Resthaven’s 85th anniversary with a nostalgic morning tea and a day of displays, costumes and resident-created exhibitions. Staff dressed as figures from the past, while residents enjoyed exploring artwork, antiques and historical displays that showcased both personal memories and Resthaven’s rich history.
On 22 October 2021, Resthaven Aberfoyle Park volunteer Janet Hill was named 'Volunteer of the Year' at the Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) South Australia Awards, recognising her outstanding contribution and dedication to supporting residents.

On 20 July 2023, residents, staff, volunteers, Executive and Board members gathered at Resthaven Aberfoyle Park to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the site’s opening. The occasion was marked with speeches, festive decorations, afternoon tea and cake, bringing the community together to reflect on five successful years.

In May 2024, Resthaven Aberfoyle Park completed the installation of a 120kW rooftop solar PV system as part of a Resthaven-wide sustainability project. Delivered in partnership with CME, Suntrix and Dsquared Consulting, the initiative contributed to an estimated 9% reduction in carbon emissions across the organisation and marked an important step towards a more sustainable future.

On 25 February 2025, around 60 residents, staff and invited guests gathered at Resthaven Aberfoyle Park to celebrate Resthaven’s 90th anniversary with a glamorous ‘Gatsby’-themed event. The day featured live musical performances from local high school students and a dance showcase. For a historical tribute, classic vehicles were on display and a few staff dressed in period-inspired costumes!
