In January 1935, at an Executive Committee meeting of Conference, Rev. John Pearce recounted the steps that had been taken to establish the Old Folk’s Home. It was agreed that an interim committee be appointed until the time of the next Methodist Conference, when a permanent one would be formed.
A house at Wattle Avenue, Brighton, was rented, and Rev. and Mrs Pearce were given the task of managing the project.
Methodist families were asked to donate items of furniture for the house or to give money and were told to express their well-wishes to Rev. John Pearce. The following month, Resthaven began operations.
