Mrs May Hersey offered the Resthaven Board two-and-a-half acres of land at Marion. She wished for the site to become, after development, ‘a memorial to her late husband’ Alf Hersey.
Rev. Guthrie Hutchinson wrote:
‘This is a magnificent gift and in a situation directly opposite the Marion Methodist Church. It is proposed to erect a three-storeyed block for residents and a thirty-nine bed infirmary’.
Although the concept of this Marion development altered slightly over time, the vision was retained.
