Resthaven Bellevue Heights opens

On 6 July 1980, the first stage of Resthaven Bellevue Heights, with its proposed 72 low-care rooms and 76 self-care (retirement living) units, was officially opened and dedicated by Rev. Keith Smith, Moderator of the Uniting Church in South Australia.

The large number of people who attended the opening event toured the extensive grounds, viewed the new development and were told something of the future plans for the site. Here, they were informed, was a place that offered ‘a caring Christian community’ with a sense of security; ‘a warm welcoming atmosphere’ with a choice of accommodation. The facilities were of the most up-to-date standards. During the decade to come, Bellevue Heights would grow, in stages, and the dream of those who first promoted it would be realised.
