The Board brought in a new mission statement in 1992, which was: As an agency of the Uniting Church in Australia, Resthaven seeks to provide a total ministry to serve the needs of ageing people.
The objectives of Resthaven were to: 1) Advocate for the needs of aged people, and 2) Develop and maintain residential and non-residential care for aged people.
The following the year, the term ‘non-residential care’ was replaced with ‘Community Services’. This second point related to Resthaven’s foresight in anticipating the changing needs of the community and developing other models of care, particularly assisting older people who wished to stay in their own home.
“Perhaps the most exciting change we have achieved is the concept of ‘ageing in place’, endorsed by this year's Federal Budget on a pilot basis for five programs across Australia. Resthaven raised the concept and negotiated it through the various processes to become a reality.” — Kelvin Dickens, Administrator.
