1993

A first for public relations

In 1993, Resthaven appointed their first Public Relations Manager. One of the priorities was to heighten awareness both within the industry and generally, of what had been achieved by Resthaven in enhancing the quality of aged care across the state.

From high profile presentations and displays to newsletters and internal forms, the promotion of Resthaven in the community led to a greater awareness of what services were available to older people, and the admissions process involved.

Just a year on, the importance of public relations was being felt in a competitive market:

“The past year has also seen more discerning applicants who have a better understanding of aged care. Frequently, applicants have already been assessed by the Assessment Teams before applying to Resthaven and are more prepared to shop around. Maintaining our good reputation has become increasingly important and challenging.” — Mrs Jan Hanson, Social Worker
