One of the first tasks of the new Public Relations Manager was to establish a newsletter for each of Resthaven’s residential sites.
“Good communication is always a challenge, and newsletters are very effective in reaching a broad cross-section of people. Design, layout and good legibility are critical to success, hence considerable time and effort go into producing individualised newsletters that sustain the reader's interest. Consultation with the people involved is also essential.”— Mrs Julie Johinke, Public Relations Manager.
In 1994, the ‘Resthaven Review’ newsletter was awarded Aged Care Australia’s national award in their ‘Best Newsletter Competition’.
Resthaven was also the inaugural member inducted into Aged Care Australia's ‘Hall of Fame’ for excellence in newsletter production in 1997. This award recognised the continuing high standard of all Resthaven’s newsletters.
In 1998, Resthaven introduced a new quarterly newsletter, ‘Volunteer News and Views’, designed to develop a sense of unity between volunteers and to promote mutual information sharing.
