With support from the Uniting Church, the Resthaven Board took stock of the testing financial situation and put aside the issues that were unsuitable for the times, such as the Regent Gardens proposal, and concentrated on upgrading existing facilities and expanding services into the community.
This decision impacted the Malvern Private Nursing Home (Fisher Street), purchased by Resthaven in 1991 for the purpose of transferring these residents to the Regent Gardens site. After the decision not to proceed with Regent Gardens in 1993, the Board set about transferring the nursing home bed licenses. These were transferred to Lutheran Homes in May 1996, and the site was sold the following month in June. Debt reduction was also assisted by the sale of a building owned by Resthaven on Glen Osmond Road, Fullarton, in the previous year.
