In 1997, for the very first time, Resthaven held the volunteer ‘thank you’ lunches at each individual site, as opposed to one large function as had been the case in previous years.
The ‘Thank you’ events were well attended and many volunteers received awards in recognition of the length of their voluntary service. These awards were presented at five yearly intervals, according to the recorded starting date for volunteer work, as of 30 June each year.
In the same year, a new undertaking was an extensive training program to equip volunteers with the necessary skills to assist in the palliative care field. These volunteers provide much needed comfort and support to both residents and staff.
