Resthaven celebrates the International Year of Volunteers

The role of volunteers within the organisation was further emphasised during the United Nations International Year of Volunteers in 2001, though Resthaven had actively involved volunteers since its inception.

Resthaven distributed a calendar, “Celebrating Volunteers”. The calendar was well received in the community and told the positive story of volunteering. With funding from an International Year of Volunteers grant, some of the photographs were used to produce postcards, which were widely distributed by Resthaven and Aged and Community Services (SA/NT).

The 2001 Celebrating Volunteers campaign was an outstanding success, with Resthaven receiving recognition with awards from Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA), the Public Relations Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Professional Communicators. The campaign also resulted in a notable increase in volunteer recruitment.
