Another facet of Resthaven’s pioneering move into the wider community was evident when Leabrook Therapy Services relocated to Elizabeth, and the first positive move to the northern suburbs was under way.
This shift was a further indication of the extent to which community services had expanded and gained significance within the organisation during the previous decade. It also reflected a deliberate, strategic decision of the Resthaven Board to support older people in areas of disadvantage and to maintain the ongoing focus of service to the community. Indeed, the move of therapy services to Elizabeth came at a considerable cost to Resthaven — its purpose-built centre received no government capital assistance.
