Recognising those who care

A key factor behind the Commonwealth Government’s support to community programs was a greater recognition of the role of carers and their need for support. The important role of carers was to be bolstered by a variety of in-home respite care services during the day and through the provision of overnight respite care centres. Resthaven helped to provide these services in the homes of older people and, furthermore, established respite care centres in houses at Westbourne Park (Ridgway House), Marion (Hersey Cottages), and Naracoorte. In addition, existing respite services at all residential care locations continued.
