A new home in the north
Resthaven Craigmore, 2004

Resthaven Craigmore was Resthaven’s first greenfield site in more than 20 years. It was opened on 17 November by Moderator of the Uniting Church, Rev. Dr Graham Humphris.

The first residents entered the Craigmore facility earlier that year on 9 August. Their new home contained features as diverse as an internet café, chapel and library, as well as their own ensuite units. The benefits of the site, though, were not merely those of fine buildings and facilities, but also the fact that the needs of older people in Adelaide’s northern suburbs had been met within their own community. In fact, the site’s proximity to local schools meant that there would be a good deal of interaction between residents and school students. This was yet another example of planning with people in mind.

The opening of the new facility created a very heavy workload for the admissions team, as the demand for the existing facilities did not abate during this time. As a consequence, a significant review of the entire Admissions process was undertaken, including a 'benchmarking' exercise with other providers and some in-depth discussions with hospital placement officers. The outcome of this review identified various improvements, which were then implemented, including a modification of policy on applications, assessments and admissions.
