In a technologically changing world, documentation systems rapidly became a concern. Resthaven commenced a major ICT project, enlisting the ‘AutumnCare’ computer software application to transform the residential care resident documentation system from paper to electronic copy.
‘Nursing staff concerned by the amount of time spent in documentation are keen to improve the way information is used to benefit residents.’ — Jenny Whitting, Senior Manager Residential Care
Following a pilot in late 2005 at Bellevue Heights, a decision was made to introduce AutumnCare across all sites in early 2006. This created efficiencies and reduced the amount of time spent on documentation. Comprehensive training was required to ensure successful introduction and support this major organisational change.
The powerful reporting component of AutumnCare was fully utilised to assist in monitoring the care given to residents. The Clinical Auditing Team continued to observe sites to ensure strong systems and practices remained in place, and utilised the system AutumnCare reporting to assist and guide audits. This proved to be a very comprehensive method of ensuring positive outcomes for all residents.
