New resources for staff

With an increasing number of residents and clients having a diagnosis of dementia, Resthaven developed an advanced dementia training program for all staff involved in the high-care respite and Extended Aged Care at Home dementia programs. This would enable staff to better understand dementia, its impact upon people and how to develop and implement individual plans of care.

Alongside this, the Resthaven Clinical Practice Manual was developed and released. This organisational resource focused on current research that identified better practices for aged care and contemporary clinical care in both residential and community settings. The manual contained background information, work instructions and recommended practice information relating to incontinence, nutrition and hydration, pain management, palliative care, oral and dental care, diabetes management, wound care, and heat impact management. Competency Based Training Packages were also developed to assist learning and enable staff to provide consistently high standards of care.
