On 14 September 2009, the aged care Awards for Excellence were held in Perth at the National Conference – Get Up, Stand Up – of the peak body, Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA). The awards recognise outstanding contributions in the field of aged care.
The Individual Award went to Richard Hearn, CEO, who was honoured for being a ‘true champion for aged care’.
The inaugural Media Award went to Resthaven Incorporated, recognising the proactive ‘Positive Images of Ageing’ campaign to influence how older people are portrayed, perceived and treated in the media and the community — challenging the negative stereotypes of ageing.
Also, a few months earlier in July 2009, Resthaven was the recipient of the inaugural organisation Palliative Care Award, recognising the efforts around quality end of life care in an aged care setting.
