Consumer Directed Care (CDC) became a focus of Community Services, with a trial of a CDC model of packaged care services undertaken in the western metropolitan region. The philosophy of this model is to give clients more control in choosing and directing their own services.
A great deal was learned from the trial and an independent evaluation supported the informal conclusion that the model was successful and can operate within existing funding guidelines. Resthaven continued its participation in the national pilot model for CDC until 30 June 2012. At that time, the evaluation was again positive, and Resthaven was pleased to announce the Department had confirmed ongoing CDC places as a part of Resthaven’s packaged care allocation. Resthaven also went on to participate in a major international research collaborative, led by Flinders University, examining the economic benefits of CDC approaches.
A further 15 places became available in the following financial year, and Resthaven continued to develop its CDC model, offering it to any clients who were seeking the option.
