The state-of-the-art $20 million home at 24 Elizabeth Street, Mount Gambier, encompassed 70 residential care places, comprising 55 high care and 15 low care beds, including four respite places.
The first building stage of the residential facility was finished at the end of June 2011, with Stage 1 opening on 4 July 2011 and admissions commencing shortly thereafter. The facility was showcased to the general public at an open day held on 29 June 2011, which was very well attended, and feedback was positive.
Ongoing works continued on Stage 2 until early the following year, with the project completed under budget. On 16 April 2012, Resthaven Mount Gambier was officially opened by the Moderator, Uniting Church.
‘The facility complements the existing resources available across the Limestone Coast through Resthaven Limestone Coast Community Services. These services include day and overnight respite for carers, in-home care and support, extended aged care at home for the very frail aged, and support for veterans. Social support is also a key feature – keeping older people in touch with friends and community groups.’ — Richard Hearn
