On Friday 10 October 2014, Resthaven CEO Richard Hearn attended the launch of the ‘SA Innovation Hub’ at the BioSA Conference Centre, Thebarton, hosted by the Hon Kevin Andrews, Minister for Social Services.
The ‘Hub’ was a trial that Resthaven was involved in with a small cluster of other SA aged care providers that represented a cross section of service types, size, and locality. By producing products and improving services that older people highly value, the trial aimed for better outcomes in working with older people.
At the launch, Minister Andrews said:
‘This South Australian Innovation Hub trial was developed in consultation with local providers to help aged care workers provide quality care in exchange for reduced Government regulation. By helping to lighten the unnecessary administrative burden on aged care staff, providers can put a greater focus on the safety and wellbeing of care recipients.’
The project offered an opportunity to boost productivity by removing excessive and overly complex regulation, and promote innovation in aged care. The collaborative 'hub' emphasised learning from each other, being innovative, seeking better and best practice outcomes when engaging with residents, clients, and carers.
