Retirees join Leabrook community
Leabrook Retirement Living opening: Burnside Mayor David Parkin, John Kennett (Director Kennett Builders), Dep Leader Op Vicki Chapman, UC Moderator Dr Deidre Palmer, Richard Hearn CEO and David Norton EM Finance

On Thursday 4 December, the $10m, two-year building redevelopment at Resthaven Leabrook was officially opened by Uniting Church Moderator, Dr Deidre Palmer. Guests included Vicki Chapman MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition; Mayor of Burnside, David Parkin; UnitingCare Executive Officer, Rev Rob Brown; Director of Kennett Constructions, John Kennett; and Resthaven CEO, Richard Hearn.

The Resthaven Board had originally budgeted $12m for the site redevelopment, and was pleased when it came in under budget. A major element of the project was the redesign and refurbishment of residential areas to increase privacy—nine shared rooms were refitted, transforming each into a single room with ensuite bathroom.

In addition, eight architecturally designed apartments were built, offering further options for older people who want to live independently, but with services available. Co-located with the home and accessed via a separate entrance, these two- or three-bedroom apartments featured their own balcony luxury appliances.
