In late 1949, the building fund for the new Mortimer Wing at Resthaven Leabrook had reached the point where it looked as if the project would proceed.
The 'John Mortimer Memorial Building Appeal' was launched, seeking £10,000 in donations.
In honour of her late husband, Mrs Mortimer played a major role in raising a significant amount of what was required.
