On 9 June 1951, Lady Norrie, wife of the Governor of South Australia, officially opened the Mortimer Wing, which, it was reported, was ‘marked by refinement’. The architect and builder were congratulated on a truly inspired effort. But it was not just the skill that set this building apart — the atmosphere made Resthaven a home, not an institution.
