On 23 October 1954, Mrs Thomas Playford, wife of the Premier of South Australia, laid the foundation stone of the new building at Resthaven Malvern. Miss G.C. Taylor, Acting Secretary of Resthaven, noted that this new centre was sorely needed, as other homes were full and applications for admittance continued to fill the waiting list.
