1958

A generous gift

The Gerard Memorial Chapel was built in 1957-58 as a gift of the four Gerard brothers — Hubert, Geoffrey, Kenneth and Jack — in appreciation of their parents, Alfred and Elsie Gerard. Mrs Elsie Gerard resided at Resthaven Leabrook at the time and was very proud of her sons’ generous gift.

The official opening and dedication ceremony was held on Saturday 3 May 1958, with an afternoon tea to follow. With the opening held the day before Mother's Day, this was a significant time in the Resthaven calendar due to the annual Mother's Day fundraiser.
